About Compare & Rank

An independent publication that scores products on published pricing and verifiable features, across whatever industry the question comes from.

Compare & Rank publishes two things: ranked lists of products in a category, and head-to-head comparisons of two products a buyer is actually choosing between. Both are led by a scoring table, because the table is the argument and the prose only explains it.

We are not tied to an industry. Software sits next to meal kits and payroll services because the same question runs under all of them: what does this cost, what do you get for it, and what does the cheap plan quietly leave out. The scoring method is identical in every category, which is what makes the lists comparable.

The publication started in 2024 and now runs 18 ranked lists and 24 head-to-head comparisons. Every price in them is re-read on the vendor's own page once a month.

How we make money

Three revenue lines, none of them a ranking

Scores are computed from the table before any commercial decision touches the page. A vendor cannot buy a position, a verdict, or a line of copy.

01

Affiliate links

Some outbound links earn a commission. The link is added after the score is final and is disclosed on the page.

02

Display advertising

Sold by category, never by article, and never to a vendor appearing in the ranking beside it.

03

Reader subscriptions

A paid tier with the full scoring sheets and price history. Free articles stay free and stay complete.

What we refuse: sponsored rankings, paid placement, vendor review of an article before publication, and any arrangement that ties revenue to a position.

Editorial standards

Six rules. An article that cannot meet all six does not publish.

1

Published pricing only

If a price is not readable on a public page, it is not quoted. Quote-only products cap at 6.0 on pricing.

2

Monthly re-checks

Every listing is re-read on its source page each month, and the article carries the date of the last pass.

3

Named authors

Every article carries a byline and a bio. Scores are a person's judgement against a public rubric.

4

Dated corrections

Errors are fixed on the page where they appeared, with a dated note. We do not quietly edit a score.

5

No pre-publication review

No vendor sees a ranking, a verdict or a score before it is live.

6

Exclusions explained

When a product is left out, the article names it and gives the reason.

Common questions

No. Inclusion follows from the category and the pricing rule. A vendor that publishes a price for the team size we score is eligible, and nothing else changes that.
Most often because the price is only available by sales call, which caps that criterion at 6.0, or because the plan we scored withholds a feature most buyers need. The article says which.
Write to admin@compareandrank.com with the page and the figure. Corrections are published on the page where the error appeared, with a date.
